Jose Aldo currently fights as a featherweight in the World Extreme Cagefighting promotion. He burst onto the American MMA scene in 2008 running through WEC featherweight contenders becoming one of the top ranked fighters in the world at his weight class and at a very young age. Although he has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, he has made a name for himself as a striker with all of his early WEC fights ending victoriously by knockout or technical knockout. Aldo fights out of the Nova Uniao camp along with notable fighters, Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro, Wagnney Fabiano, and UFC middleweight contender Thales Leites. Aldo made his debut for mixed martial arts promoter World Extreme Cagefighting on June 1, 2008 and defeated well renowned fighter Alexandre Franca Nogueira at WEC 34. Aldo made a statement for his claim at a shot for the WEC 145 title with an 8 second flying knee KO of Cub Swanson who had never been KO’d before.
