Alvarez is one of the most exciting young fighters in MMA. He fast, dangerous hands combined with his wrestling ability and endless gas tank have attributed to all but two of his victories coming by way of his fists. Alvarez won his first ten fights in a row with none of them making it to the third round. He won the MFC welterweight belt in 2007 which would later become bodogFIGHT after the organization and fighter contracts were sold. After losing to Nick Thompson in bodogFIGHT Alvarez shortly after made the drop to 155 to better suit his smaller frame. He then signed for the DREAM promotion and competed in their lightweight tournament qualifying for the finals but he was medically unable to finish the tournament due to a cut over his eye.
