Nicknamed “The Prodigy” because of his incredible success at such a young age, Penn is one of the most intriguing fighters in MMA today. After becoming the first American to win the prestigious World Jiu-Jitsu Championships, Penn tuned to the UFC where he reeled off three exciting wins in a row. His brutal style of power punches, incredible flexibility, takedown defense and submission skills made him one the hardest fighters to game plan against in the UFC. He would lose his fourth bout, a title fight to Jen Pulver, by decision. He would then spend the next three years jumping organizations and weight classes. He defeated Takanori Gomi in Rumble on the Rock, Gomi’s only loss in his next 10 fights, go back to the UFC and defeat Matt Hughes for the welterweight title, then relinquish his belt and fight in Japan and Hawaii. After returning to the UFC and finding little success at 170, he would return to 155 and win the title at lightweight.
Notable Wins
Takanori Gomi, Matt Hughes, Renzo Gracie, Sean Sherk
